Understanding Ease So Your Sweater Actually Fits
June 22, 2026 · 6 min read

Ease is simply the difference between your body measurement and the finished measurement of the garment. A sweater with 4 inches of positive ease will be 4 inches larger than your bust — roomy and relaxed.
Negative ease means the garment is smaller than your body and stretches to fit. It is common in ribbed tops and fitted tees, and it flatters when the fabric has enough elasticity to recover.
The most reliable way to choose a size is to measure a sweater you already love wearing and match that finished measurement, rather than picking by your bust size alone.
Every pattern in the shop lists finished measurements alongside the recommended ease, so you can make this call before you cast on.
